Prius PHV: 2017 Best Seller?

Prius Shoots for the Top 

After two years of falling sales, 2017 promised to be the recovery year, with the introduction of the new Toyota Prius PHV, but i don't think no one expected that the Toyota plug-in landed with such a bang, 3.230 deliveries is not only the Second Best landing month for any model in the World (That honor belongs to the 4.128 units of the Chinese BAIC EC180, last December), but also the best selling month  ever for a single model in Japan...

With this event, the Japanese EV had its best month EVER, with 5.723 units, up 28% YoY, with the Nissan Leaf also helping to the healthy numbers, by registering 1.711 units, up 6% YoY.

Consequently, the EV Share was up to 0,86%. 

On the other hand, the other driving force for plug-ins in this market, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, continues to falter, having sold only a third of what it had a year ago. It looks like 2017 will be a two horse race and the Outlander won't be one of them.

The remaining models in the ranking have comparatively small numbers, with the top models gobbling 93% of the market.

In the manufacturers ranking, Toyota and Nissan are head-to-head, with 43%, followed from a far by Mitsubishi, with 11% share.

With Toyota coming this strong to the race, i do not believe the ageing Nissan Leaf will be able to follow it, so it all seems to point for an easy win for the Prius in 2017, five years later its first (And only) trophy.
