A huge increase in U.S. sales of the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class – a comparison aided by the transition from GL to GLS at this time a year ago – brought about a 24% year-over-year increase in U.S. sales of flagship large luxury SUV sales in March 2017.

Despite a 12% drop in sales of the Cadillac Escalade, previously the segment leader, and a 32% plunge in sales of the Lincoln Navigator in the lead-up to a new Navigator's launch, category-wide volume grew by 2295 units. The GLS and Escalade accounted for just under half of the sales reported here.

Improvements were also posted by the Infiniti QX80, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX570, Mercedes-Benz G-Clas, and Toyota Land Cruiser. 

Year-to-date, through the first-quarter of 2017, sales of the segment are up 19%, a gain of 5000 units, despite the Escalade's slide.
