Image result for Nissan Leaf in Sweden

BEVs Charge In

We start the month with Sweden, which registered 1.434 units, a 15% improvement over the same period last year, with the EV Share down to 4.3%, but still comfortably ahead of the 3.6% of last year.

On March top sellers, we find the usual winner (Passat GTE) and runner-up (Outlander PHEV), but in Third we have a surprise, with the Nissan Leaf registering 185 units, its best result in over two years(!), Nissan must be selling them with deep discounts and one wonders how many more times will the Leaf reach three digits until September.

Not a surprise is the Fourth Place of the Tesla Model S (182 units, up 28% YoY), the relevant fact here is that it was the Californian best result in Sweden since its arrival, back in 2013. Despite this, the class best sellers (Audi A6, BMW 5-Series...) all sold 500-plus units last month, so Tesla still has a lot to grow to reach the class top sellers.

Looking at the YTD models ranking, if the top two are already distancing themselves, behind them there's a lot to talk about, with BEVs on the rise:

- The #3 Nissan Leaf and #4 Tesla Model S both climbed one position, at the expense of the Volvo V60 Plug-In, down two positions to #5;

- The Renault Zoe climbed to Ninth, thanks to a record 93 units month, most likely due to the massive arrival of the ZE 40 version;

- Korean Kia Soul EV is now #20, up one position.

The GLC350e fever seems to have arrived to Sweden, with the Mercedes model registering a record 28 units last month, shooting for #14 and aiming to reach the Top 10 in a few months.

On the EV manufacturers ranking, the leader Volkswagen (33%, down 8%) had its leadership eroded, but the restyled Golf plug-ins are arriving to secure VW's #1. Mitsubishi (14%, down 1%) is in the runner-up place, while BMW (12%) is resisting in Third, with Volvo and Tesla (Both at 11%) just outside the podium.

Fuel Cells continue with symbolic numbers, as Toyota registered two Mirai last month, increasing its tally this year to four units. Add one Hyundai FCEV registered in February and we have five Fuel Cells registered this year in Sweden, making 0,01% of the total market.
