Let's welcome back the Resident Tomica Expert, Jay Kho, for another look at some recent Tomica Premium releases:

Some of 90’s legends by Tomica Premium

Many moons ago, I remember discussing with a friend that one of the greatest eras in automotive history was the early 90’s.  If you weren't Rolling with a 5.0 with the rag top down so your hair can blow you were most likely in the dealership trying to decide what to purchase which Japanese car to buy.  I wouldn’t know completely as I didn’t have my driver’s license yet, and the fact that we were broke didn't help.  But if I could, I would have had to choose between the Mazda RX7, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Toyota Supra, and the two featured in this piece, the Nissan 300ZX and Acura NSX.  Ok fine, the NSX is on another level, more in the Dodge Viper price range.

I do remember purchasing my last Matchbox in the Philippines before I moved out here to Vegas.  It was a yellow 300ZX.  And after seeing the movie If Looks Could Kill, I was a hopeful kid dreaming of owning one.  Remember the movie with Richard Grieco?  How about that car chase scene?

No?  Here you go.

Luckily we all grow up and get a job, and hopefully I will get the chance to purchase some of the things I wanted.  (Yes, toys included.)  That was the case with my Nissan 300ZX TT.  I was able to afford one when it was much older.  It was such a fun car to drive, and I owned it, then traded it, and I moved on.  You can still purchase one today for less than $15k, something I regretfully cannot say with the Acura NSX.  10 years ago, I would continuously pass up on owning one, thinking that it will go lower than $15k, so I waited…and waited…and waited some more……and now?  Forget about it! I can’t afford that!

Much like our mini scale version toy cars, we have the supply and demand effect.  We buy something for $1 dollar and before you know it, people will gladly pay you $15 to own it.  While other models are just stagnant in value, which makes it easier to go back and add them to your ever growing collection.

This is one of many fun factors of owning something and then seeing it go up in value.  A sigh of relief and say “oh thank goodness I was able to purchase it before it went up in price”.  Because, before you know it, IT BECOMES THAT ACURA NSX THAT YOU SEE IN THE ADS NOW FOR $40k-$50k! AHHHHHHH!!!  Give me a moment, I’m a little emotional right now…

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has passed up an item, toy car or real car, that has you now kicking yourself in the rear for not pulling the trigger when you had a chance.  What were yours?

In the meantime, head on over to our friends at Japan Booster and grab these 2 awesome cars before that supply and demand kicks in and well… you know the rest.
