Another  market warming up to the midsize Mercedes SUV

Return of the PHEV

The Norwegian plug-in market grew 34% last month to 3.968 units, leading to na increase in the YTD tally to 31.063 registrations, up 24% YoY, keeping  the plug-in share at 35%.

Looking at July Top Sellers, a lot changed regarding the previous month, after a 100% BEV Top 5 in June, this month brought PHEVs back, in the form of two SUVs, the Mercedes GLC350e and the Outlander PHEV, but possibly the most startling surprise was the old dog Nissan Leaf reaching #1, with 334 deliveries, it seems the Japanese model still has a trick (hard discounts) up its sleeve to win sales.

Looking at the YTD ranking, the most important news were the Nissan Leaf closing in on Second Placed e-Golf (140 deliveries, worst performance in over 3 years, wha'sup VW?), and with both separated by just 50 units, the Grandaddy of the ranking might even surpass the recently 36 kWh supersized e-Golf...

The Outlander PHEV climbed to #4 and became the Best Selling PHEV, while the Tesla Model X dropped two positions in the ranking, now being #8, to the benefit of the trendy Mercedes GLC350e and Renault Zoe.

In the manufacturers ranking, Volkswagen (21%, down 1%) is in the leadership, with BMW (18%, up 1%) approaching from behind, while Mercedes (12% share, up 1%) is in Third Place, distancing itself from Tesla and Nissan, both with 8%.

Footnote: Three additional Toyota Mirai were added in July to the FCEV stock.

With 35% PEV share, the general market is showing a mixed cocktail of technologies, with two ICE models, three HEVs, two PHEVs and three BEVs.

This month we had Toyota hybrids shining, winning three of the top four spots, with only the Nissan Leaf meddling with them and ending in Third.

Interestingly, one of the ICE models in the ranking was the VW Golf, with 268 units, registering more units than the Plug-in hybrid GTE (228 units) and the all-electric e-Golf (140), something that didn't happened for a while now...

But, counted together, PEV Golfs still outsell the ICE (368 vs 268) ones, so all is still well and there's no need for headlines saying "Winter ICE is Coming (back to Norway)"
