Portugal September 2017
EV Sales continue on the rise in Portugal, with sales in 2017 up 101% YoY to 2.654 units, with the PEV share at a record 1.5%, there's good reasons to be optimistic and see registrations reach 4.000 units this year.
After years of underwelming performances, the Renault Zoe is finally living up to expectations, leading the market with 524 registrations, with its stock numbers (903 units) only 100 units below the most common EV in Portugal, the Nissan Leaf.
With a new Leaf landing in a few months, it will be interesting to see if the Japanese hatchback outsells its French cousin in this market.
Another popular brand is BMW, with the BMW 330e in Third Place overall, while also being the best selling PHEV, while the i3 is #4 and the BMW 530e is #8, being the highest standing Rookie.

This is one of the few markets where the Mercedes C350e still outsells its GLC350e SUV-relative. Blame it on company-car deals, which is also the same reason why the BMW 330e is so well placed.
Further down the ranking, two novelties are tied in #16, the Mini Countryman PHEV has registered a record 14 units last month, with the Mini plug-in confirming to be a success story, while the VW e-Golf had 11 deliveries, a new personal best, let's hope the larger battery coincides with a renewed effort from the local importer to promote the car and place it in a Top 10 place. Considering the several months waiting list, demand won't be a problem...
In the manufacturers ranking, thanks to a strong lineup, BMW is in the lead, with 29% share (Up 1%), followed by Renault (19%) and Mercedes (16%, up 2%).

As plug-ins reach new heights, it starts to be interesting to compare them with regular hybrids, a class completely owned by Toyota, placing three models in the podium.
Nevertheless, the Third Place seems attainable, so in the near future the Toyota domination is likely to be dented, bit by bit.
No wonder Toyota is now heavily promoting the Hybrid lineup, the plug-in fever is on their way to overcome them....
