Denmark December 2017
The Light at the end of the tunnel?
The 913 units registered last year in Denmark, represented a 35% drop regarding 2016, which itself was down 72% regarding 2015, making 2017 the slowest selling year since 2013.
This consecutive drop is sales lead to a 2017 PEV share of only 0.4%, behind the final shares of previous years, like the 0.6% of 2016, the 2.3% of 2015 and even 2014 was better, with 0.9%...
So instead of improving, like the neighboring countries (Germany, Sweden, Norway, etc) have been doing, Denmark lost the PEV train in 2016 and continues to see it disappear into the horizon.
But enough of complaining, in the middle of this sales mayhem that has been affecting Denmark, the only model to stand out, being responsible for 42% of registrations, is the Renault Zoe, winning the 2017 Models trophy without a sweat, with 386 units, making it the Second consecutive Best Seller award for the French hatch, followed by VW e-Up! (91 sales) and the Tesla Model X, which repeated the Bronze medal earned in 2016.
Interestingly, and unlike most markets, Danes prefered the Model X over the Model S in the last two years, does anyone can explain this sweet spot over the Tesla Minivan disguised as Sports SUV?

Looking at the remaining models ranking, the VW e-Golf was up to #6, with 36 units, all thanks to the 36 kWh version, while on the other hand, both Nissan models, previously popular choices in Denmark, dropped significantly, with the #10 Leaf and #16 Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia, in desperate need of renewal.
In the BEV/PHEV breakdown, this continues to be a BEV stronghold, with all-electrics being responsible for 77% of the market, but the 23% share of PHEVs is a stark improvement over the 11% of 2016 and the 3% of 2015, making this the highest share year for plug-in hybrids in Denmark.
In the Manufacturers ranking, Renault (42%) won the Best Seller award, its third (The others were in 2016 and 2012), with Volkswagen in Second Place (17%), and Tesla (11%) in the Third Spot.
On the LCV category, sales actually improved on 2016 (+32%), to 50 units, which is still far from the 2015 peak (226 units), but it is nevertheless an improvement. The Best selling model was the Nissan e-NV200 van, with 44 units, or 88% of the market.

Finally a mention to Fuel Cells, there were 15 FCEV's registered in 2017, down 12% regarding 2016 (Apparently PEV buyers didn't changed to FCEVs with the end of plug-in incentives), which marks the second consecutive sales drop, since the 2015 peak year, when 30 units were registered.
The Hyundai ix35 FCEV and the Honda Clarity FCEV shared the Best Seller trophy, with 7 registrations, with the divisive Toyota Mirai in Third, with only one registration. After three years on the market, the Mirai has yet to win a Best Seller award...Will it be in 2018?
