This Is Why Other Countries Drive On The Wrong Side Of The Road
Some countries prefer to drive on the wrong side of the road, with the main disadvantage currently being the legions of frustrated JDM fans that happen to live in the left-hand drive portion of the Earth.
But why is this happening? Wouldn’t be easier if everyone just used the same side of the road? It would certainly be cheaper for the automakers.
Turns out the root of the problem goes way back in time, long before the car was even invented, as explained by the latest video of Donut Media.
The whole thing is traced back 6000 years ago, during the Roman Empire era. The biggest road network at the time was built by the Romans, which controlled a massive area that expands beyond today’s Europe.
The Romans then dictated that everyone should travel on the left side of the road since most people are right-handed and usually mounted their horses from the left. A couple of thousand years later, Napoleon decided that everyone should travel on the right side because he’s Napoleon. Everyone obeyed, meaning everyone but England.
When England and France started establishing colonies around the world, they also brought their customs with them. That’s why countries like Australia and India are today driving on the left while countries like Morocco and Vietnam drive on the right.
Hang on a minute! Wasn’t the United States a British colony? Why don’t we drive on the left? Strap in boys and girls, it’s time for some learning.
