The new Ferrari 488 Pista has been finally revealed and after celebrating its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, it’s time for us to dig a little deeper into what makes it better than the standard 488.

With the kind help of Carfection and Henry Catchpole, we get to find out why exactly the new 488 Pista makes such bold claims about its performance.

The key figures are 711hp (720PS) and 568 lb-ft (770Nm) of peak torque, along with a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 2.85 seconds, a 0-124mph (200km/h) in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of over 211mph (340km/h). Serious numbers for a potentially world-beating supercar.

The twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 has been significantly revised, adopting most of its features straight from the 488 Challenge race car. These include things like specific valves and springs, a new cam profile, strengthened pistons and cylinder heads, shorter inlet ducts, radiators with an inverted rake, a larger intercooler and the list goes on.

The bodywork is now almost new, thanks to the efforts of Ferrari’s aero team, allowing the new 488 Pista to offer 20 percent more downforce. Key points are the innovative S-Duct at the front, the larger side air intakes and the new edges of the front bumper, side sills and rear diffuser that look like they’ve been lifted straight from the race car.
